John usually performs with his trio—piano, bass & drums— instrumental with an occasional vocal. This combination is intimate and spontaneous—and the setting in which John really shines as a pianist. This dynamic, focused "little band" has a concentrated sound that is greater than the sum of its three parts.

John sometimes augments this core rhythm section with a female vocalist and/or a horn section for larger venues and to showcase "big band swing" type repertoire.
